hey princesses, how is everyone anyway?
here is a big massive update of an essay,trust me things arent as exciting as they should be, well sort of but not really.trust me im not going out that much at all! people here actually study and take things seriously, its just i write to you about crazy stuff all the time because its where i get up to the most mischief and itseems like the most interesting stuff, you really want and e-mail where i say;
got up at 6;45 this morning so i could make it to my 8am class, its freaking cold and dark at that time, although for once the water in the shower was fairly hot, although you have to keep pushing the button every 15seconds or so, thats a little irritating, then i played with my computer a bit and put some different songs on my camera/mp3 player, got dressed and walked down to catch the 7h37bus, which was late because of teh heavy traffic at that time; its still very dark at that time of the morning, i think the sky has been solid grey for at least a week now, and pretty much constantly drizzling with rain, just enough to be annoying; i cant even be bothered getting my umbrella out of my bag;so about 150students all cram on this bus and because im wearing manylayers (2tshirts,fleece sweater and a ski jacket) it gets pretty hot on there, i dont know why but i feel a little sick in the stomach when i get hot here, its strange. traffic was so bad i got off about half wayand walked, i was about 8minutes late for class, but thats ok, i thinkin future i will take the earlier bus, but that means getting uppretty freaking early, then i was in that class for about 2hours doing stuff that was pretty good for my level i think, like its all stuff i know but im consolidating it, i think thats teh best thing for me right now, to master what i know before i move on to harder stuff, and then i did a class this afternoon called "oral speech in context, cultural conversation competence". but in fact we basically sat down in pairs, asked each other questions then did a little presentation thing about each other, mine was the best because i bagged the crap out of people who smoke so everyone got all fired up, but i stood my ground, there was one chick who kept repeatedly asking me what i would do if i had a girlfriend who smoked, even though she was a bit of a hottie; i told her i would tell her to get stuffed, hehe
the food here is interesting, i dont have much of a choice, its between various vegetables or chips, and a choice of fish, dinde(which means turkey but im pretty sure its chicken) or beef, so im definately trying different things, yesterday i think i had some sort of poultry wraped in fish, that was strange, didnt really like it but im so hungry by that stage that i just shouvel it down.
so yeah, you want more posts like that? because its what i have been doing mainly, personally i just find it more interesting to tell you things like how on monday night i went round to luke(irish guy)'s building (next to mine) where his floor was having a 3rd floor party, got really drunk and spoke to people in french, then went to java for erasmus(exchange students) night, where we get priority entry and cheap drinks, and you can guess teh rest from there, typical james stuff.
yesterday i got all excited because i thought the internet was working in my room, but turns out that now i can START the beauraucratic process, filling out various papers and signing various contracts so they can be mailed off to some office to authorise my account or something, basically another bout of extremely slow, tedious and seemingly unnessescary french beauraucracy. so im expecting, realisticly... 8-10 days. several people have been writing to me saying that people dont fire up as much without me, i guess its true, am i some sort of natural leader or something? you tell me. i was drinking a fair fookload of tequilla
stay in touch kids, hope you are appreciating the weather for those of you in Nice and even moreso for those of you in perth. brrr
This blog is a collection of random stories, anecdotes and thoughts in general. I started it back in September 2004 when my lifestyle as a wanderer began with an exchange trip to France. As the people, places and shenanigans blur together this blog is as much a tool to remind myself of what I have done and who I have met as it is to inform my friends and family that I am, in fact, still alive.

je n'ai pas écrit depuis longtemps
well kids it has certainly been a while; i have been in strasbourg for over two weeks now and in truth, its not quite as fun as Nice, but its still good and very good for my french, last night i spoke french while i was drunk, now thats a milestone.
anyway this update will be quite disjointed because my memory sucks so i will try to piece together the past few weeks from emails i have been writing, here goes.
do you have any idea how expensive petrol is here? not that it bothers me but i just thought it was crazy for people to pay over 1euro per litre, thats over $2 ffs ouch; australia is so cheap; we are all so lucky
uni is pretty much as i expected it, quite hard but not too rough, they make allowances for our lack of ability; i think i have been studying french for by far teh least out of everyone, most of the other students have done it for like 5 years+ but of course i still kick ass, what can i say? im thorpedo.my room is small and simple, but clean new and nice as well, its just a bed,fridge,desk, cupboard and sink,
i still cant send photos, french people suck at organising things, i am supposed to have the internet in my room for my laptop but no go; they basically just told me to wait, doofuses. at first they said one week and its already been two, i think it might be whinging time.
carla, a girl from my class back in sunny australia introduced me to this professor here;claire dupuis and her husband marc, she has been so freakin nice its not funny, shes has lent me sheets and pots and pans and all that stuff, i have been over to her house a couple of times for lunch such good food! although once it was tripe, that stuff is nasty! but they have been so nice i sucked it down anyway.they have been to perth like six times and know it all well, it was quite strange to talk about perth in french to french people, but yeah, its really good to be able to talk with some french people.
getting everything organised is a real pain in the ass, in perth we have one student card that does everything, i already have 4 cards here and have at least one more
i have been to germany a few times, pretty strange there i discovered i can go for free with the bus pass i bought to a city called kehl, its the closest one to strasbourg anyway, its quite strange there, the keyboards are even stranger than the french ones. i thought a lot of people smoked in france!, every computer has a used ashtray next to it. everything there is so much cheaper as well, i think i might start going there just to do my grocery shopping. and the weather is still quite crappy, but im getting used to it, i might have to do some clothes shopping in germany as well, very cheap indeed:
as i have told mamma of course i am here to further my education but remember this: alcohol makes me happy, and a happy worker is a hard worker,
the other night ireland played against france in football so a few irish people went down the pub to watch the match, was a pretty good atmosphere, turns out i know a bit fo teh french anthem, allons enfants de la partrie, la jour de gloire est arrivée...
the weather has been up and down but its steadily getting colder, something like 8degrees during teh day at the moment,i think i need to buy some more serious winter stuff, at teh moment i have practically nothing.
classes here are pretty hard, in my first one i could barely understand a thing, but another where i think i got just about everything,
monday nights are erasmus nights at java (erasmus is the exchange students system or something) i thought i had classes on tuesday but turns out i dont, luckily for me, last week i felt absolutely useless and today not much better i think i might buy some slightly more expensive beer in future, this cheap stuff is killing me.
even though its a really long way away, im really looking forward to meeting up with mum,dad,amy,lee,trsitan and the 2 bens, snowboarding in france over christmas, man thats going to be swoit.
anyway, last night i had yet another big one, seems that mondays are teh way to go, this place called java gets really packed and its fairly cheap (for france) but before that luke had a party on his floor in his building and we all spoke french most of the time which was good because i have never really been able to do that while ive been drunk,
at about 2.30am we left the place and started wandering around looking for a kebab place, NOTHING arg, so frustrating,only in france i say i really couldnt be fucked walking the 40mins back to our place, so i crashed on sara's floor;
this mornign i was too hungover to make it to any classes(the optional ones that are repeated all week so no big deal), although one thing about teh cold weather, i think it helps hangovers, nice crisp air in your face
tonight im going to cook some mexican food and then i think a bunch us are going to the movies, mainly polish people; sounds good to me, seems like i wouldnt be capable of much more. and thats all my news for the moment, i think i might to home to bed for a little while, feeling like poo atm, i hope thats enough info to keep you all happy for a while; keep the emails coming everyone, its really nice to hear about home and what everyone is up to, im missing you guys alot, be great to see you all again next year, although you'll all be tanned and buff, but ill get over it, im just that pretty,
ciao princesses!

twometres
here's a pic from tapas, my favorite tequilla hangout, 25shots for 30euros, i like it,mamma thinks that i was a little worried about meeting people before i came here, i think im doing ok now:but i had to develop myself a base to work from; first it was philip and the other swiss guy(forgot his name already), and i worked from there onto cyril, bec, verina, tom etc etc etc i feel very confident when i know that there is going to be a friendly face near by, and here is very different to home because you ALWAYS have something to talk about, always:
my friend alice has moved in with mamma and is keeping her company, sounds like they are having fun together and alice is fulfilling mama's nede for young adult tension :) good work ali,
anyway tonight is sort of being treated as my last big night, im going over to cyril's place; he lives near antibes; i feel kinda bad because in a month here i have barely left Nice, everyone else has been to Cannes,Antibes, Monaco etc, but not me, so im having a quick trip to Juan Les Pins to see at least another tiny bit of teh french riviera, although i will probably just hang out at cyril's place: then im meeting a bunch of people from school; they have been talking about getting like 3 bottles of spirits and drinking themselves stupid before they go out, that doesnt sound like my style at all but i guess i should hang out with my friends for my last few days :)
im being kicked out of my apartment tomorrow, and im moving into some crappy hostel for my last night here then sunday night im on the train at 7pm for like 12hours, fun fun fun, hopefully i will be able to get some sleep. i just bought myself the 5th volume of that dragonball comic mamma got me last time she was in france, im completely adicted to them; i need to slow myself down otherwise i could knock one off in half a day, not so much a bad thing, but at 8euros a pop, i need to space them out. i have reached a strange ploint in my french, i think im finally starting to think a bit in french, but it has some negative side effects; namely because its starting to come naturally, im not putting as much thought in and so sometimes english words just pop out, so yeah, its really good but a little annoying and embarassing; anyway, better go get ready and get on the train for cyril's place,
ciao kids, speak to you soon:xo
ps. hooralegeit is 'hows it going?' in swedish
