We all mature eventually. Some more quickly and some more noticeably than others. As an adolescent, at times I could be fussy with my food. I hated tomatoes, pumpkin, squash, olives, gnocchi and avocado.
But all things change eventually; while I still won't go near gnocchi, will skip over olives, pass on pumpkin and squirm at the thought of squash I now find myself eating avocados by the truckload. On a toasted bagel for breakfast, as guacamole with corn chips and sliced up in a satay chicken salad. Maybe, in my own way, I am finally starting to grow up.
Did you know that a medium sized avocado (also known as the Alligator Pear - for obvious reasons) has, on average, over 270 calories? Having said that, avocados are packed full of all kinds of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins E, C and B6, Fiber, Potassium, Riboflavin, Magnesium, Copper, Thiamin, Niacin, Folate, Phosphorus, Zinc, Manganese and Pantothenic Acid (whatever the hell that is). Avocados also act as a metabolic assistant; facilitating the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as beta-carotene. Avocados; are you getting your share?
