worst night of my life...not really but pretty bad

ok kids, what you are qqboutq to reqfd mqy shock you,but it hqs to bre done, pleqqse fogive the letters but this is the first tile i hqvce used qn english keybooooq=ard in q lon gti;e. i cqn finqllly sympqthise xith qlll you ladies whohhqve beeen hqrqssed, ***, **$*, qrg, too runkm cqnt typei will speqk to you soon,m, hqve q god one kids, speak to you soon, ciqo.... haha, this is me editing this post the next day, i was planning on going over and correcting tha haneous typing errors but i decided to keep it for the comical value. anyway, here is a more coherant account of last night... we arrived in paris just before midday yesterday and spent a fair bit of time buggering about at the train station trying to organise our metro tickets, finally we got that sorted and hopped on, we then spent a lot more time buggering about trying to find somewhere to stay based on my vague memory of the last time i was here about 4months ago, finally we settled in at this nice little place near montmarte after i nearly broke my back lugging my bag around, heavy bastard it is. we didnt do a lot more that afternoon, mainly just eating and slobbing, eventually we made an early start on our drinking and got stuck into a bottle of tequilla, that was probably our first mistake. after nearly finishing that little puppy we decided to head down stairs to socialise, ended up talking way to much politics with a swedish american and a couple of californians, and if anyone knows me and i dont have the highest opinion of americans. we eventually headed out and somewhere along the way after getting some awesome paté panini type thing we met some yugoslavian guy and went to some old man bar and had a drink with him there. ben is a jackass when he is drunk and we spent a long time arguing about shit. after an hour or two there we headed to some club that was pretty packed so we lined up for a good 30mins and eventually got in to find extreme cover charge city... not a bad place though, good music really packed... pitty about the drink prices though. for once my awesome scam of putting all our many layers of jackets together and paying only one coat check didnt work... bastards...eventually i decided to leave but i lost ben somewhere along the way, after bumbling around like a jackass for a bit;the bouncers finally pushed me in the direction of the coat check room. this is where it gets a bit hazy...**i have later come back and taken this part out because i have decided i want to forget all about it, but all ill say is i was a drunken retard and got hit on by some guy really badly and it wasnt cool**...then i somehow managed to stumble my way back to our hostel with more luck than co-ordination and then wrote the masterpiece you see at the beginning of this blog... there were a bunch of people sitting downstairs being festive with drinking games so i decided that i wasnt quite drunk enough and joined in... mostly americans but i managed to keep my insults down to a safe level.. not a bad bunch of people as far as i can remember... so i woke up this moring in my bed fully dressed with no sheets and i had left my jackets downstairs... thankfully they were all still there... today we are headed off for the whirlwind tour of paris hitting all the major tourist spots so benny can crush all his unfounded ideals about what paris is like... that'll do pig... that'll do.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christamas

Hey there kids, hows things? whats doin'? Nice was fun and after major dramas with the train costing me a lot of money and time, I finally made it to Lyon. It was really good to see the family again and ben-ji. Had very little sleep there and then all crammed into a mini van type thing and headed for Les Menuires, and here we are. Its so beautiful being in the snow again, i love it. My first white christmas. Amy and mamma are having a little trouble getting the hang of skiing, in fact on the first day i tried to give amy a quick lesson in boarding, and she stuffed her knee and had to sit out for almost three days, i feel kinda bad because now she is really discouraged. Its also a little annoying because ben and lee are at a similar level, but the beginners class is in the afternoon and mine is in the morning, so i cant board with them... i joined in their class today and said i was just there to take photos, that was pretty cool.

I was a little worried for a bit there, I had some issues with my ankles, my boots were giving me grief on one leg and i got some blisters happening, and on the other my boots were crushing my achilles, that happened to me when i went boarding in hotham, i had to go to the doctor and i was out for a couple of days, so i was really scared, so i ended up sitting out for a day and a half, but today it wasnt so bad so i headed out and turned out ok, i still have to be careful though, i still have 3days to go and i want to make the most of them. In fact im goign to check out the weather in a sec... at first snow here was flowing and perfect, but its been sunny for a few days now so its not perfect... so here's hoping for a heavy snowfall! preferably just in time for christmas day...

This morning my class joined with another one and we built a jump, so much fun! we had a landing into really soft snow so we were all trying crazy stuff, i was so close to pulling off a 360°, just fell straight after the landing, but ill get there before i leave. Dad, amy, ben and i all have digi cameras so we are getting quite a collection of photos happening. Ill get them on here when i can.

Yesterday ben and tristan rocked up for a night and that was ok, we didnt do alot though, me and tristan just got stupidly drunk and then went out, but all the bars etc sucked so we just went outside and mucked around with a couple of luges, its pretty funny when you're hammered. I tried to go down a little hill standing on two of them, and ended up smacking my face on the ice, dont worry, im still pretty ;)

Internet here is so expensive! almost 5euros for half an hour, that is absolute robbery... but at least they are playing barry white right now, that almost makes up for it. hehe. Anyway, I better get home for some dinner and an early night, it was a long day today... pretty knackerd. I wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. enjoy your sunny weather and think of me freezing my ass off in pitch black stockholm. ciao mes enfants!

Back in Nice

Hey kids, I'm back in nice, its good to finally have my christmas break, student life was starting to get to me a little up there in Strasbourg, but im ok now, dont worry*. So i arrived here by train on tuesday morning after a nice 12hour trip down, didnt sleep the best but ill get over it. after dropping by cyrille's place to say hi (he has exams right now, last one is today!) went to meet up with tristan and ben that afternoon, went down to the beach and it was actually not too cold, well the water was freezing actually but it wasnt too bad out, so we jumped in for a bit of refreshment, me being the badass i am in just my boxer shorts allowed me to strut around with my huge icicle. ran into my good friend sarah from mexico down there, shes such a bubbly girl that one, good for a laugh! Just sort of hung around and caught up on stories etc and got stuck into some brews about 6ish after a quick powernap chez patrick. started off the night ok, met up with bruno and headed down to the bulldog for happyhour, there was a quiz night on at waynes, we headed over there but it was making a late start, so me and bruno headed over to tapas for some tequilla shots. ran into cyrille there and thats where things start getting hazy for pretty much everyone. this is the story as i have manage to piece it together over the past couple of days; but im still not 100%on the facts. i think i then went back to waynes but i was too late for the quiz night, tristan and ben eventually went to tapas and hit the tequilla themselves and they met cyrille there, that was the last i saw of them as i went to a couple of other bars and met up with several people from school etc.

tristan and ben had way too much tequilla, i think it was something like 8shots in a row for tristan and ben wasnt far behind, cyrille hadnt seen them for a while and eventually one of the bouncers came in carrying ben and told cyrille he fell and hit his head and then on their way out **ben was sitting on the floor outside tapas, and i when they decided it was time to go, ben tried to get up, only to fall down again before he even made it to his feet, head first into the concrete and cut it up pretty bad... thats the last cyrille saw of them for the night, what happened next is anyone's guess but when they woke up in hostpital they were a little confused. when they told me this next part i thought they were kidding but its the truth: they were both strapped to their beds with drips in their arms, ben regained consciousness around 4am and tristan was out cold, ben decided he didnt like this situation so he then proceeded to hudini his way out of there starting by pulling out the drip with his teeth and then loosening his straps, once free he went over to try and wake and free tristan, with little luck, tristan was out cold, a bunch of doctors then came in and decided they didnt like the look of this situation so one stuck a bag on ben's head while another tackled him to the bed, the result of this being that ben was once again strapped to the bed this time with bigger straps with large metal screws, but you cant hold down a dyer, after squirming and wrigging his way for probably close to an hour and a half, he managed to free him self 3/4 of the way when once again sprung by a doctor, "look, you can either bag me again or help me get this last strap off" obviously they decided ben was in a better state this time and let him go, not being to happy about being taken there against their will, they skipped out on the check, apparantly a fireman took them in, but ben isnt too sure thanks to the broken english of the staff. tristan awoke to find himself minus his camera, the sore heads and the lack of expensive electronic goods led these two to conclude they had been mugged and robbed, and as ben had all his things and what appeared to be someone else's blood on his arm, he decided that he had been the worlds best street fighter and taken them all on, tristan has a rahter sore lump on the back of his head and may have been king hit. im personally not sure what happened as it turns out that at least ben's facial injuries were self inflicted.

the next day i met up with them to spend about two hours pissing myself laughing at the retelling of the night's events, there was a lot of finger pointing at me not looking after them in my home town of nice. last night was a bit quieter, met up with a bunch of girls from various countries and got a bit drunk, surprisingly. there were two guys wearing black singlets that tristan decided he didnt like the looks of so he managed to convince hetti to swap shirts with him (she was wearing a black singlet) and went over for some dancing and photo oppurtunities. one of the other guys decided he wasnt going to be outdone with his coolness and so dropped his pants and danced like that, the second singlet dude thought he wanted to be just as cool as this casanova and did the same, tristan of course followed suit. all of this has photo evidence so stay tuned for when i can access my camera and stick them up for public viewing, after a few minutes of this crazy old man dancing squad tristan decided he had had enough and pulled up his pants and did up his belt, one of the other guys wasnt too happy about his and decided it wasnt time yet so went over and undid tristan's belt and dropped his pants for him. this was all very amusing and my face still hurts a little from laughing too much. well this whole story is very disjointed as im very tired, i might have a power nap and come back to fix it up later, speak to you soon kids. we're not in strasbourg anymore are we Toto?

Just looking at it you wouldnt guess that it was too bad, you would just say it was a below average standard rush job. But no. I gladly handed over close to AU$30 to get stabbed and attacked, to have hair spinkled through my various layers of clothing, all synthetic; and who loves to hold on to hair more than a synthetic shirt? yeah baby. And my personal favorite part was when she came at me with a blade; oh yes, shaving cream? a bit of foam? no. maybe a drop of gel? no. oli? ha! how bout a splash of warm water? GET OUT OF HERE, we are talking metal and skin here kids, why would you expect anything else.

As my birthday falls smack bang in the middle of exam week, I wont be having a huge one unfortunately... But I will have an aperatif or two tonight and see where I end up. Fun Stuff no?

Hi kids, whats doin bros and cuzzes? Just sitting here feeling sorry for myself with a mother of a hangover.. This week has been fairly uneventful, just preparing myself for test week next week... I think I should be ok, but I better get some serious study done tomorrow to make up for the total write-off that was today.

Last night was the international students party at uni, not bad at all. I met up with Alderich (Holland, right) and checked it out, so cheap! I'm pretty sure i spent about 7€ all night and got completely written off, once i was nicely boozed on tequilla and beer, i hit teh dancefloor and there was no stopping me... after that it's a bit of a blurr, I have no idea how i got from there to another party/club, and i remember not alot while i was there, i do remember losing my jacket and having a go at the coat check dude and then after about 15minutes of being an ass, Mattias (Belgium, middle) found it lying on a chair somewhere, go me. Im pretty sure I had a good night overall though, now that im not drinking so often I think i'm softening up in my alcohol capacities, I'll have to watch that one... Aside from that things are pretty normal here, not alot of exciting stuff to report. Not long now and I'll be 22! on wednesday i will offically be an old man, how depressing, oh well, another year gone by and am i a little wiser? you tell me. Then not long again and ill be off to nice to start the 3week party/snowboarding fest that is to be, I should have some good photos and some stories to tell after that!

Terrible! Mamma got broken into earlier this week while was in bali! they did a real number on our house, stole heaps of jewelry, guitars, dvd players, dvds the works, they were actually pretty strange crims really, didnt take tvs stereos or computers, but they took my document folder with all my tax info and academic records... strange. As a result, stroosey is moving in with mamma and staying on while she is here in france. Should be good, our own personal guard dog hehe. That'll do for now people i'll speak to you soon kids.

In a one-horse open sleigh

hiya kids, whats new?

most of you must be full steam into party mode by now with the end of uni, and for some the end of uni for ever! craziness, just think ill get back and half of you will be working full time, have a house with a white picket fence, 2dogs and a wrx station wagon. it'll be like the twilight zone. just think im pretty much half way through the trip now, feels like just yesterday i was in Nice, and back then it felt like just yesterday i was getting on a plane back in good old perth

im just here killing some time until my next class, i was tempted to just go home and skip it but i did that last week so i better not... its so boring! i spend the whole time struggling to stay awake! and its pretty obvious too because there are 4people in the whole class arg, how did i get myself into this mess... i hope i dont fail it, but the teacher just realised we are over half way through the semester so he kicked it up a notch and no he speaks too fast as well, arg, dialectology, what was i thinking signing up for that class??? am i insane or what?

i would rather stick my head in the freezer (that would probably kepp me awake!) than go to this class for two hours, arg.

im still waiting for some more details about vic's trip, for those of you who i dont know she is coming over to europe.. well thats the point i dont know when but sounds like she's in it for the long haul. maybe i can meet up with her if its convenient, but thats pretty unlikely, its funny to think that tristan, ben, ben, vic, vinod and jamie are all going to be here practically at the same time, damn amazing if you ask me...

vic said to me in her last email;

>Thanks for the email darls. Keep me updated on the study, and your mates - take more >pics of them, only of the cute ones :)

the last pic i sent her was the last pic i posted on this blog...

anyway, guess what...? this morning it was SNOWING here! it was pretty amazing i seriously didnt expect it at all, like actual little flakes of snow were falling on me! so cool, i was a little annoyed really because i was running late for the bus i had to run(and almost slip over) and even though i had my camera with me i didnt have time to take a picture! it was pretty amazing, right next to where i live there is a river with lots of pine-like trees, they were all dusted with snow, it was absolutely beautiful. i hope it happens again soon because it is really just breathtaking to see that, and it would make an awesome photo. everyone here is like... meh; but for me its something special.

ok that will do for now, i have to kill the next hour and a half waiting for my next class where i usually just sit there and struggle to stay awake, so boring!

ok bros and cuzzes, ill speak to you soon.

Les Brasseurs

well this weekend has actually been ok. not too busy but i have had fun. didnt do anything at all on friday, just slobbed around, it was really bad acutally because my internet was down half the time, that was annoying. i was planning on going to germany to visit bec for her birthday; but then i saw the prices of train tickets and that put a speedy death to that idea. ouch.

so after a lot more slobbing on saturday (im getting quite good at that) i cruised round to yannik's room for a bit of a slob there then we headed into town and went to a place called les brasseurs (the brewers) a cozy bar with an underground part, live band etc.

(this is a photo of me and jerome and... someone else there) the beer there was freaking awesome! they make it themselves; it puts the usual cheap beer in town to shame, and it was pretty cheap there as well, i can see myself returning there in the future. we hung around there till... no idea what time actually then got started on the good old 45minute walk home. on the way i was trying to teach yannik how to say asshole properly, (it was he who chose the word, not I) and he was virtually incapable, he kept saying things like hasssole, it was pretty funny really, he got it right once or twice but he couldnt hold onto it for long. then he said ok fine, you say it in french; so i said it perfectly, im not sure how you write it, i think its culler(coo-yay) or something.

then sunday, i did a lot more slobbing, i was fairly hungover, not too bad though, i think it was mainly the smoke... then i went into town and went to... someone's house (forgot her name already!) one of dagmara's friend's... who was having a sort of dinner party thing, had some sort of hot beetroot drink (that was rank) and some various other polish dishes, overall it was pretty damn tasty! it was quite multicultural, algeria, holland, poland, australia, myote, belgium...(and australia obviously!) but everyone speaking in french, it was a really good practice session, ill have to do that sort of thing more often methinks.

and that was my weekend, today i was planning on getting up in time to go to the gym before class but its so freaking hard to get out of bed here, damn weather, although today was warmer than most... so yeah, didnt make it bu i went after class to make up for it.

looking forward to the holidays so much! only 22more days till i go to nice, and then 4 more till i go snowboarding!

i hear it was 37in perth today, that is pretty insane for november, i wish i was there so much, im going to be a pale bitter ghost by the time i get home, appreciate it kids! speak to you all soon, james

back to the future

g'day shielas? how's it going down unda? swoit? swoit. not alot exciting to report here, its cold, and i am doing more contact hours than anyone has ever dreamed of (last week i think i did close to 26) but im still not mastering the private study side of things, as if it wasnt hard enough in enlgish, in french its a nightmare, i have to struggle to stay awake! content so boring and it takes twice as long to read, arg. on the positive side of things, i am pretty impressed with my level of french, ill have to find some means of showing it off to everyone when i get back... hmmm ill come up with something. still just the usual stuff, uni, sleep, music and burriots. but its all good. so instead of blogging what has been happening, im going to blog the future; impressive eh?

we're all getting pretty excited about our xmas/nye plans, its going to be so great! just in case you dont know EXACTLY whats happening (and im sure you're dying to know.. :D ) here it is; well the first part is still on the drawing board; im going to try to work extra hard now so i can skip out on the last week of uni and jump on a train and head down to nice to hang out with cyril and the rest of the gang, fair few of them are still down there so it should be a laugh, im really glad i did that, made quite a lot of good friends down there who i wont be forgetting in a hurry. then im jumping on a train on the 18th of december where mum, dad, amy, lee, and ben are going to pick me up in a car from somewhere like lyon where we will drive to the snow.

they will all have met at various stages along the way from bristol to paris. we're staying in the snow at a little town called les menuiers until the 26th of december; a nice big family xmas week; going to be so good! at some stage tristan and ben dyer will probably drop in for a night or two as well, they started their trip about a week ago and it sounds like they're having the time of their lives, in spain i think at the moment, but its one of those whirrl wind tours, hard to keep track. then me and benn are jumping on a train up to paris for a few days to check out the scene and party it up, ben has never been to europe so he is going to want to do the touristy stuff, but thats ok,im sure ill enjoy myself; despite not being a fan of paris, should be fun being a tour guide, there we shall stay in a hostel or something until the evening of the 30th when we will jump on a plane destined for stockholm, sweden to meet up with ben dyer and tristan again for new years and a few extra days, then im headed back to strasbourg via paris on the 3rd of jan, to get stuck back into some hard core study. not a bad little plan if i do say so myself, sound good? jealous?

however until then, as i said, quite a drudging lifestyle here, im barely even drinking! im sure you dont believe that but its true, i have been out for a big night in strasbourg maybe... 4times? and i have been here for 7weeks already, wow, impressive eh, i dont think even i ever envisaged that sort of behavior.

well, that will do for today, im off to get something to eat. hear from you soon kids.

**for those of you who havnt seen, i have changed alot about this blog, and added a bunch of photos, check it out starting back in september, if you look to the right of this page you can see the archives bit, click on september and you can probably work out the rest!**

things here are settling down a bit more, i think i am generally staying on top of this at uni, doing lots of hours of classes and i think im making progress. i met one of my neighbours properly, yannik from dijon, he's been really good, lent me his guitar and i copied heaps of music off him and stuff,. i havnt played guitar for like 3months so im pretty rusty... but i think i can get back into it eventually, even my fingers have gone all soft; its like starting over again, hurts so much.

i finally joined the gym here as well (speaking of being really sore) its really cheap but pretty crappy, very small and always very crowded. there is this one beefed up guy who is so classic, he makes teh stupidest noises when he does weights, sounds like such a typically french wanker, i guess you gotta be there.

havnt been taking alot of photos lately hence another one of me sitting at my computer, ill try to remember to bring my camera around with me more often when i go out.

been going out a little but not nearly as much as back in nice, maybe twice a week on average; probably for teh best, my brain is actually working a bit better now and i think i can get some work done. thursday was the armistice holiday here in europe so a bunch of us went out on wednesday night; first off to yannik's room for some serveuse (beer wine and lemon syrup) then a nice fresh walk into town (40mins at less than -4°) then onto a boat. there are a bunch of them moored on the river side and they are just like normal pubs really, kinda small though, was a bit of a novelty; music was good though, then met up with a bunch of polish people and went to teh club area to a place called seven, that was ok, but i was pretty buggered, first day at the gym and 8hours of classes, so ended up getting home about 3 and then just slobbed thursday, everything is closed so i didnt have much choice, dont think i will go out tonight, take it easy for a bit, try to get some work done and hit it hard tomorrow, but you never know with me do you?

so how is everyone? uni is coming to and end and so summer can really start properly, i hope you are all going to appreciate how lucky you are and go nuts, but save some strength for when i get back mid feb, thats when the real partying will start! i think im going to take advantage of my access to boats more often, so pencil that in for some heavy duty river partying, maybe even a rotto voyage or two, that'll do for today kids, hear from you soon. à +

salut mes enfants

hi kids, its james here, remember me? as you may have noticed i have updated my blog considerably with photos and stuff, what do you think? its about time no? well here i am, hungover as hell, i think thats the best time to blog because im not much good for anything else. last night i went to one of my french neighbour's friend's place for drinks then i went out to good old java; strasbourg's club bayview. those french bastards! i was telling them how hardcore australian's were at drinking and they made me prove it, so much gin, why do people entertain themselves at other people's expense? its just plain evil.

on second thoughts maybe its not such a good time to blog, i cant remember anything! well lots has happened since i last wrote; most noteably i went back down to Nice for the weekend(which extended into tuesday night) i missed everyone down there so i just had to go back, it was nice to be missed as well, everyone was so happy to see me, im just that pretty. i crashed at cyril's place in juan lespins so i actually ended up seeing a little bit more of the area, went to the beach there etc, its nice. im looking at going back down there in december, maybe even for my birthday if i can, but i dont know if i can swing it with uni etc; tristan and ben will be down there at some stage so that would be good if i can organise everything, have a few more australians to throw around in Nice, i hope they dont embarras me, im playing around with msn so ill talk more later

mi ma mots mots

hey princesses, how is everyone anyway?

here is a big massive update of an essay,trust me things arent as exciting as they should be, well sort of but not really.trust me im not going out that much at all! people here actually study and take things seriously, its just i write to you about crazy stuff all the time because its where i get up to the most mischief and itseems like the most interesting stuff, you really want and e-mail where i say;

got up at 6;45 this morning so i could make it to my 8am class, its freaking cold and dark at that time, although for once the water in the shower was fairly hot, although you have to keep pushing the button every 15seconds or so, thats a little irritating, then i played with my computer a bit and put some different songs on my camera/mp3 player, got dressed and walked down to catch the 7h37bus, which was late because of teh heavy traffic at that time; its still very dark at that time of the morning, i think the sky has been solid grey for at least a week now, and pretty much constantly drizzling with rain, just enough to be annoying; i cant even be bothered getting my umbrella out of my bag;so about 150students all cram on this bus and because im wearing manylayers (2tshirts,fleece sweater and a ski jacket) it gets pretty hot on there, i dont know why but i feel a little sick in the stomach when i get hot here, its strange. traffic was so bad i got off about half wayand walked, i was about 8minutes late for class, but thats ok, i thinkin future i will take the earlier bus, but that means getting uppretty freaking early, then i was in that class for about 2hours doing stuff that was pretty good for my level i think, like its all stuff i know but im consolidating it, i think thats teh best thing for me right now, to master what i know before i move on to harder stuff, and then i did a class this afternoon called "oral speech in context, cultural conversation competence". but in fact we basically sat down in pairs, asked each other questions then did a little presentation thing about each other, mine was the best because i bagged the crap out of people who smoke so everyone got all fired up, but i stood my ground, there was one chick who kept repeatedly asking me what i would do if i had a girlfriend who smoked, even though she was a bit of a hottie; i told her i would tell her to get stuffed, hehe

the food here is interesting, i dont have much of a choice, its between various vegetables or chips, and a choice of fish, dinde(which means turkey but im pretty sure its chicken) or beef, so im definately trying different things, yesterday i think i had some sort of poultry wraped in fish, that was strange, didnt really like it but im so hungry by that stage that i just shouvel it down.

so yeah, you want more posts like that? because its what i have been doing mainly, personally i just find it more interesting to tell you things like how on monday night i went round to luke(irish guy)'s building (next to mine) where his floor was having a 3rd floor party, got really drunk and spoke to people in french, then went to java for erasmus(exchange students) night, where we get priority entry and cheap drinks, and you can guess teh rest from there, typical james stuff.

yesterday i got all excited because i thought the internet was working in my room, but turns out that now i can START the beauraucratic process, filling out various papers and signing various contracts so they can be mailed off to some office to authorise my account or something, basically another bout of extremely slow, tedious and seemingly unnessescary french beauraucracy. so im expecting, realisticly... 8-10 days. several people have been writing to me saying that people dont fire up as much without me, i guess its true, am i some sort of natural leader or something? you tell me. i was drinking a fair fookload of tequilla

stay in touch kids, hope you are appreciating the weather for those of you in Nice and even moreso for those of you in perth. brrr

je n'ai pas écrit depuis longtemps

well kids it has certainly been a while; i have been in strasbourg for over two weeks now and in truth, its not quite as fun as Nice, but its still good and very good for my french, last night i spoke french while i was drunk, now thats a milestone.

anyway this update will be quite disjointed because my memory sucks so i will try to piece together the past few weeks from emails i have been writing, here goes.

do you have any idea how expensive petrol is here? not that it bothers me but i just thought it was crazy for people to pay over 1euro per litre, thats over $2 ffs ouch; australia is so cheap; we are all so lucky

uni is pretty much as i expected it, quite hard but not too rough, they make allowances for our lack of ability; i think i have been studying french for by far teh least out of everyone, most of the other students have done it for like 5 years+ but of course i still kick ass, what can i say? im thorpedo.my room is small and simple, but clean new and nice as well, its just a bed, fridge, desk, cupboard and sink,

i still cant send photos, french people suck at organising things, i am supposed to have the internet in my room for my laptop but no go; they basically just told me to wait, doofuses. at first they said one week and its already been two, i think it might be whinging time.

carla, a girl from my class back in sunny australia introduced me to this professor here;claire dupuis and her husband marc, she has been so freakin nice its not funny, shes has lent me sheets and pots and pans and all that stuff, i have been over to her house a couple of times for lunch such good food! although once it was tripe, that stuff is nasty! but they have been so nice i sucked it down anyway.they have been to perth like six times and know it all well, it was quite strange to talk about perth in french to french people, but yeah, its really good to be able to talk with some french people.

getting everything organised is a real pain in the ass, in perth we have one student card that does everything, i already have 4 cards here and have at least one more

i have been to germany a few times, pretty strange there i discovered i can go for free with the bus pass i bought to a city called kehl, its the closest one to strasbourg anyway, its quite strange there, the keyboards are even stranger than the french ones. i thought a lot of people smoked in france!, every computer has a used ashtray next to it. everything there is so much cheaper as well, i think i might start going there just to do my grocery shopping. and the weather is still quite crappy, but im getting used to it, i might have to do some clothes shopping in germany as well, very cheap indeed:
as i have told mamma of course i am here to further my education but remember this: alcohol makes me happy, and a happy worker is a hard worker,

the other night ireland played against france in football so a few irish people went down the pub to watch the match, was a pretty good atmosphere, turns out i know a bit fo teh french anthem, allons enfants de la partrie, la jour de gloire est arrivée...

the weather has been up and down but its steadily getting colder, something like 8degrees during teh day at the moment,i think i need to buy some more serious winter stuff, at teh moment i have practically nothing.

classes here are pretty hard, in my first one i could barely understand a thing, but another where i think i got just about everything,

monday nights are erasmus nights at java (erasmus is the exchange students system or something) i thought i had classes on tuesday but turns out i dont, luckily for me, last week i felt absolutely useless and today not much better i think i might buy some slightly more expensive beer in future, this cheap stuff is killing me.

even though its a really long way away, im really looking forward to meeting up with mum, dad, amy, lee, trsitan and the 2 bens, snowboarding in france over christmas, man thats going to be swoit.

anyway, last night i had yet another big one, seems that mondays are teh way to go, this place called java gets really packed and its fairly cheap (for france) but before that luke had a party on his floor in his building and we all spoke french most of the time which was good because i have never really been able to do that while ive been drunk,

at about 2.30am we left the place and started wandering around looking for a kebab place, NOTHING arg, so frustrating,only in france i say i really couldnt be fucked walking the 40mins back to our place, so i crashed on sara's floor;

this mornign i was too hungover to make it to any classes(the optional ones that are repeated all week so no big deal), although one thing about teh cold weather, i think it helps hangovers, nice crisp air in your face

tonight im going to cook some mexican food and then i think a bunch us are going to the movies, mainly polish people; sounds good to me, seems like i wouldnt be capable of much more. and thats all my news for the moment, i think i might to home to bed for a little while, feeling like poo atm, i hope thats enough info to keep you all happy for a while; keep the emails coming everyone, its really nice to hear about home and what everyone is up to, im missing you guys alot, be great to see you all again next year, although you'll all be tanned and buff, but ill get over it, im just that pretty,

ciao princesses!

my friend alice has moved in with mamma and is keeping her company, sounds like they are having fun together and alice is fulfilling mama's nede for young adult tension :) good work ali,

anyway tonight is sort of being treated as my last big night, im going over to cyril's place; he lives near antibes; i feel kinda bad because in a month here i have barely left Nice, everyone else has been to Cannes,Antibes, Monaco etc, but not me, so im having a quick trip to Juan Les Pins to see at least another tiny bit of teh french riviera, although i will probably just hang out at cyril's place: then im meeting a bunch of people from school; they have been talking about getting like 3 bottles of spirits and drinking themselves stupid before they go out, that doesnt sound like my style at all but i guess i should hang out with my friends for my last few days :)

im being kicked out of my apartment tomorrow, and im moving into some crappy hostel for my last night here then sunday night im on the train at 7pm for like 12hours, fun fun fun, hopefully i will be able to get some sleep. i just bought myself the 5th volume of that dragonball comic mamma got me last time she was in france, im completely adicted to them; i need to slow myself down otherwise i could knock one off in half a day, not so much a bad thing, but at 8euros a pop, i need to space them out. i have reached a strange ploint in my french, i think im finally starting to think a bit in french, but it has some negative side effects; namely because its starting to come naturally, im not putting as much thought in and so sometimes english words just pop out, so yeah, its really good but a little annoying and embarassing; anyway, better go get ready and get on the train for cyril's place,

ciao kids, speak to you soon:xo

random disjointedness

not alot to say since i last wrote you, last night i went to see dodgeball with hariett, my french wasnt quite good enough to get all the jokes so it wasn't that great, think it might have been kinda cool otherwise,

at least you get time off during the week! we`ve started referring to going out as 'work' sometimes it feels that way, until ive had my nightly round of tequilla! im a little concerned about my liver though, im getting addicted to tequilla, i cant get enough of the stuff, other people look at me when i drink it with a slack jaw, maybe i should take that as a sign.

im supposed to be meeting some people at the beach today after school, which by the way im like 2 hours late for because i got home at like 4am, im just waiting for teh break to show up so my lateness isnt quite so obvious, this is the 3rd time ive done this, i dont feel too bad tho because many people have missed a lot more classes than me, i think when he left this german guy peter missed about 20hours all up, ouch, such a waste of money.

my friend cyril crashed for a while because his train doesnt come till like 5:30am, and when he left at like 6am my landlady came in and went nuts! i told her i didnt know who it was, coz all she saw was a light leaving the flat, maybe i should have told the truth coz she is all paranoid that it was a burgler.... hmmm, anyway i justify this to myself by saying that her rules are stupid anyway so i am not respecting them, only 2(maybe 3) nights left,

look slike th plans to meet up with tristan after xmas is going to work out well, however short but sweet;

off to sweden for new years, i hope these swedes can handle my level of partying, anyway i better get to class, ill write some more later, sorry that this was so disjointed, you know how it is, no doubt.

random update

for class today we played trivial pursuit and taboo, home made french styles, pretty fun, my team got creamed coz we made up easy quiestions for them and then the ones they gave us were absoltuely haneous,

weather today isnt that great a bit overcast, still warm tho and ill head on down to the beach after i have my daily panini
in case you are interested: my plan is this, i finish classes on the 18th of dec and start again on the 2nd of jan, i am meeting up with amy mum lee and ben in paris and then we're all driving down to meribel to go snowbaording until the 26th at which stage me and ben will probably make our way up to amsterdam, paris and problably head to stockholm around the same time as tristan and ben dyer

i think once i conquer french im going ot invest some effort in spanish, i quite like it and it seems a rediculous amount easier than french,
adios cabrones

lots of love from your friendly neighbourhood teage

ps. i have to re-read my posts several times these days ,my english is getting quite bad, im spelling some english words in a french way, for example i wrote qute instead of cute, and they arent exactly near on the keyboard.

not alot to report, yesterday i increased my class load for next week because im still feeling pretty scared about my capabilities, im sure ill be fine by the end of the semester, but during will be a rough ride; its about an extra 80 euros to up from 20 to 30 hours a week,

someone from my class back in perth has introduced me to a couple who live in strasbourg, i have been writing to them (in frnech which is really hard!) and they are being rediculously nice, at first i was going to stay with them for a few days, but now that im not getting there until a bit later i've said thanks but i dont need to anymore, but they have told me that they will give me some strasbourg-specific advice, help me with finding a job and claire has even insisted that im not allowed to buy sheets in town, she will lend me some, im very lucky to have found such nice people before i even get there.

last night was a complete right-off, lots of people from school are leaving today so we had to celebrate, but somehow i think i was celebrating more than most. i can barely remember a thing, last thing i remember is drinking a lot of tequilla, then at some stage im pretty sure i was vomiting a little, and thats it, somehow i managed to get home, with my phone camera and wallet, and all my money is still there as well, im going to try to find some people to ask what happened. im pretty sure i was so drunk i didnt even have a kebab on the way home, but not 100%

ive moved back into the appartment, the hostel was too expensive; no kitchen, no washing machine etc. and this time im paying a tiny bit less as well, all of which im sure you'll be glad to hear. there is a mexican guy staying there; bruno, he's pretty cool , very relaxed as you can imagine for a mexican, he came out with me last night; so maybe i can ask him, but im pretty sure i would have lost him at some stage, i looked at my phone this morning and cyril had written saying; "where are you, ive lost you."

by the way, im sorry if my english is a little off; between a rather severe hangover and all this french, im probably writing a little strangely, i have already made several corrections.
when i first got here it was all german people everywhere, i sometimes felt a little isolated because everyone would speak in german, now its the same thing with spanish, i have met 2 columbians, 3 mexicans and like 7 spaniards, incidently i think im learning more spanish than french, which is probably a bad thing because it will confuse me, but i think once i have mastered french i will start to learn spanish, its a really nice and easy language. awevo! (that is a really strange mexican word that literally means egg, but it is used to describe testicals, but people mainly use it for just about anything, kind of like saying "hell yeah!" eg. -do you want to go see a movie? -awevo!
probably my favorite word so far, also i have learnt t'quero (i love/want you) and chingala which basically means fuk/shit/damn etc.

bruno told me a really great mexican joke:
everyone thinks of mexicans as lazy, the french are romantic americans are stupid and english people are ugly, thats just the way people think, but everyone thinks of mexicans as being lazy, agreed?well picture your typical mexican household, there is the husband sitting there in the corner, very drunk, wearing a really big sombrero, a bottle of tequilla in his hand and he's wearing a poncho, suddenly he yells out to his wife who is in the kitchen making some tacos "quick! bring me the scorpion antidote" and his wife says: "why have you been bitten by a scorpion?" and the husband replies: no! but i can see him over there and he's coming towards me!
and people think that mexicans are lazy....

trust me its a lot funnier when someone tells it with actions and a mexican accent, and according to bruno its even funnier in spanish.anyway, thats pretty much all i have to report, . cant wait to send all my photos home and tell the stories behind them, although they all involve alcohol.i hope everything is at home and i miss all you guys, also i hope i havnt made you worry too much with my stories, at least you can take comfort in the fact that im being very economical, last night i mainly drank other people's vodka.

anyway thats long enough for now, stay in touch and let me know how things are going in perth.

Just another average day here in Nice. beautiful weather, beacutiful water, etc. I have a pretty badass tan happening here; pity its completely useless because im about to head up north for the cold ass winter of northern france; fun! skin cancer? bring it on. Speaking of which, here is an interesting fact that many of youz may not have considered; the sun here is completely different to at home; because there isnt a giant fuk off ozone hole right above our heads here, you dont get burnt; pretty much at all; i can spend like 5 hours straight in the sun with no cream and hardly go pink at all; consider doing the same thing on cottesloe beach sometime people; yeah, didnt think so. Whats even stranger is that here the sun FEELS really really hot; even much hotten than at home; but as i said barely does any damage at all. Very strange indeed, maybe i will take a photo of my ass and show you how much i have tanned in just a couple of weeks; its crazy i tells ya.

then again maybe i wont show you my ass; the lifestyle here doesnt exactly agree with my psyique; the lack of exercise and my diet (consisting of pasta and paninis which are like toasted sandwiches with lots of oil and cheese) coupled with my excessive beer consumption has led for me to basically become a big fatass, i cant even afford a gymhere because they are quite literally triple the prince of back home; ouch, i hope there is something with better value in strasbourg or im screwed. I am certainly not looking forward to coming home and seeing all my bronzed buff mates doing the australian swagger. Everyone one here is convinced that they can spot an australian just by the way they walk, especially the guys, and after having it pointed out to me i can clearly see it; we have a swagger, and mine is comparitively mild! Anywho; thats enough of a ramble for today, stay in touch kids; word.

also i have found an apartment here, it works out ot be less than half of what i was paying at the hostel and it also has a kitchen, which is a big plus, so all in all loks like im going to stay here for about 3 weeks and then head to strasbourg around the 26th or so.

Mystery Kebabs

We all know the ancient tradition of getting quite steamed and stumbling home via the kebab store, something I always believed was a bit of an australian tradition, but it seems this phenomenon is an international occurrance, here in Nice is no exception.

But the kebabs here aren't quite like home, for starters you can order 'kebab frites' which funnily enough is a kebab with chips in it, quite good really but not all that interesting. The interesting part of this is the meat.

At home we can get a lamb, chicken maybe even a felafal kebab, not the case here in france, you order a kebab, and thats it, no choice of meat, thats because no one seems to know what the meat is, i have theories, but i can never be certain. I suppose my theories are sort of wishful thinking because the reality is probably far more scary. My main idea is that they get several different types of meat, and put them all mixed up onto a pole, and then roast it on a rotissary, much like at home, things like lamb, bacon chicken etc. and then shave it off, there you have it a kebab. The taste is quite unique but the mystery adds a bit of a scary element, something i am pretty sure i could only stomach whilst quite drunk, mainly because im too out of it to think that hard, but the next day i always have my concerns, so there you have it, the mystery kebab meat, some sort of blend of bacon and lamb mainly i think but who can be sure. The meat shake lucky dip. je pense que je vais vomir

my belief that australians were hardcore drinkers has left me disillusioned, or maybe im just soft, because this morning, albeit having had a few more hours sleep than me because his female roommates weren't kicking the shi.t out of him for snorning and stinking up the whole room like vodka, was chirpy as hell. sa i was leaving, this part you will like tristan, i met a german girl name julia, but you pronounce it funny, like with a soft J. and so me, having all the game in the world, started explaining to her how her name sounded like eulogy, and, being german and thus not knowing what a eulogy is, the situation nessecitated me explaining that her name reminded me of a speech that one gives and someones funeral...

why dont i pick up more often? doesnt make sense.

then after a walk home, we spotted a casino, and after having gotten our last drinks for free, (barstaff not too bright) i decided to gamble the excess cash away, but they wouldnt let me in with freyed jeans, :( probably for the best,

Ive been looking into doing a french lagnuage class here, its pretty expensive but i think its worth it.

this is the famous cyril.

so when i got here i just sorta wandered the streets, to get a feel for the place, its kinda like surfers paradise except not nearly as crappy, lots of hotels and cansinos and stuff right along the beach, but its european so its pretty tasteful, they wouldnt even let me into the casino the other night coz i had freyed jeans! probably a good thing because i could barely see at that stage, but thats another story.

so i met a couple of swiss-german guys over breakfast yesterday morning, pretty cool guys, picture your typical ultra tanned buff german dudes and that'll serve better than any photo. but here is one anyway. where was i? right, uhhh yeha so i just hung out with them and practiced my french going to the beach ,eating kebabs, you know, the good stuff,

anyway, one of them is trying to distract me right now, so i better wrap this up, internet access aint cheap! like $4 for 30mins. damn...

Then i was ordering some beer from teh bar when some girl walked into me making me spill my beer on her top, she went nuts while i tried to tell her it was her fault. Well, starting with the very very very long flight, i met some pretty cool people, alex from adelaide who is doing something similar to me in Avignon and Sanae from Lyon (france) we 3 got really drunk on wiskey and beer and actually had a pretty good time. We all exchanged addresses and will probably meet up sometime in teh next few months. Total time in transit was like 27 hours, that was pretty, rough.
